Für meine San Francisco Reise habe ich mich für den CityPASS entschieden, da er das bestmögliche Sparpotenzial geboten hat.

In 2016 war im CityPASS enthalten:

  • California Academy of Sciences
  • Blue & Gold Fleet Bay Cruise Adventure
  • Aquarium of the Bay oder
  • de Young Museum + Legion of Honor
  • Exploratorium oder
  • Monterey Bay Aquarium
  • 7-Tage-Karte für Muni und Cable Cars

Ich konnte damit drei Museen kostenlos besuchen, 7 Tage lang die Öffentlichen nutzen und hatte noch die Bay Cruise mit dabei. Ich hatte damals $80 (ca. 70€) bezahlt. Wenn man nur die Eintritte von je ca. $20 betrachtet lohnt sich das. Aber auch für die Öffis. Hier muss man normalerweise ca. $2 pro Tour bezahlen. Und man kann viel mit den Öffis machen.

Leider wurden die Inhalte des Passes im Laufe der letzten Jahre reduziert. Aktuell (2019) bekommst Du jetzt für $94 (83 €, ab März 2019) :

  • California Academy of Sciences
  • Blue & Gold Fleet Bay Cruise Adventure
  • Aquarium of the Bay
  • Exploratorium oder
  • San Francisco Museum of Modern Art SFMOMA
  • nur noch 3 Tage Muni und Cable Cars

Zusätzlich sind im CityPASS verschiedene Coupons enthalten, u.a. von Macy's und Blooumingdales.

Dafür kannst Du eine andere Option des Passes wählen: den San Francisco C3 Pass. Hier kannst Du Dir drei Attraktionen aussuchen, die Du dann mit diesem Pass kostenlos besuchen kannst. Diese Version kostet $69 (61 €). Hier ist aber das Muni Ticket nicht enthalten.

Ich finde diese Entwicklung des Passes sehr sehr schade. Das Einsparpotenzial ist leider nicht mehr so groß. Klar spart man immer noch im Gegensatz zu den Einzelpreisen, aber ab dem 4. Tag muss man die Öffis bezahlen, was mitunter ins Geld gehen kann.

Beim CityPASS bekommst Du per Mail einen Gutschein. Diesen musst Du ausdrucken und vor Ort gegen das Ticketheft eintauschen.

Beim C3 Pass entfällt das. Hier kannst Du zwischen einem gedruckten Ticket oder der mobilen Ticketversion wählen.

For my journey to San Francisco I decided to buy the City PASS, because it is the best way to save more money.

In 2016 the CityPASS included:

With this I could visit three museum for free, could use the public transport for seven days and I could take the Bay Cruise. I payed $80. Only the admission fee was $20 each. So this pass was worth it. But also for the public transport. Here you have to pay about $2 each trip. And you can use the public transport very often.

Unfortunately they reduced the options of the pass about the last years. Currently (2019) you have to pay $94 (starting March 2019) and you'll get:

  • California Academy of Sciences
  • Blue & Gold Fleet Bay Cruise Adventure
  • Aquarium of the Bay
  • Exploratorium or
  • San Francisco Museum of Modern Art SFMOMA
  • only three days Muni and Cable Cars

Additionally you can find in the CityPASS different coupons, among others of Macy's and Bloomingdales.

But you also can choose another version of the pass: the San Francisco C3 Pass. You can choose three attractions which you can visit for free with the pass. This version cost $69. But you don't have the Muni and Cable Car Ticket included.

In my mind this modification isn't pretty good. You can't save as much money. Yes you'll save more money as against when you pay for every attraction. But from the fourth day you need to pay the public transport and this could be so much more expensive.

When you buy the CityPASS you'll get a mail with a voucher. This voucher you need to exchange in San Francisco into a book of coupons.

When you buy the C3 Pass you only get a mail. You can choose betweena printed ticket and the mobile version.
