Bombenanschlag Oklahoma / Oklahoma City Bombing
Der Bombenanschlag auf das Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma am 19. April 1995 war bis dato der schlimmste Terroranschlag, den die USA erlebt hatten.
Das Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building:
Das Alfred P. Murrah Building war ein achtstöckiges Regierungsgebäude.
Das Gebäude wurde in den 70er Jahren gebaut und am 02. März 1977 eröffnet.
In dem Gebäude waren u.a. Büros der D.E.A. (Drug Enforcement Administration), des Secret Service und des ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms) außerdem noch Rekrutierungsbüros der Army und des Marine Corps.
Im ersten Stock befand sich zusätzlich noch ein Kindergarten.
Das Gebäude wurde auf Grund der großen Zerstörung und Instabilität abgerissen und das Memorial wurde aufgebaut.
Der Anschlag:
Bereits 1983 hatte eine Organisation, die CSA (The Covenant, The Sword, and the Arm of the Lord) angekündigt einen Van mit Raketen vor dem Gebäude zu parken und per Timer explodieren zu lassen. Als die CSA die Vorrichtungen dafür bauen wollte, explodierte eine Rakete in den Händen eines Mitgliedes. Die CSA nahm dies als "Zeichen" und verwarf den Plan einen Anschlag auszuüben. Der Anführer, Richard Snell, wurde zum Tode verurteilt. Dieses Urteil wurde am 19. April 1995 ausgeführt, an dem Tag, an dem der Anschlag erfolgte. Snell sah den Bericht dazu noch.
Am 19. April 1995 wurde ein Mietvan vor dem Gebäude geparkt. Er war mit über 3 Tonnen Ammonium Nitrat, Diesel und anderen Sprengstoffen gefüllt. Um 9:02 Uhr Ortszeit detonierte der Van und zerstörte ein Drittel des Gebäudes. Bei dem Anschlag kamen 168 Menschen ums Leben darunter 19 Kinder. Viele davon unter 6 Jahren. Über 800 Menschen wurden verletzt.
Es hat nicht lange gedauert den Terroristen zu finden. Als Schuldiger wurde Timothy McVeigh gefunden. Er wurde zum Tode verurteilt. McVeigh hatte den Anschlag als Vergeltung für die sog. Waco und Ruby Ridge Belagerung ausgeführt. Waco ist ein Ort in Texas. Hier hatte sich eine religiöse Sekte verschanzt, die bereits seit einiger Zeit unter Beobachtung des ATF stand. Die Sekte war sehr gefährlich und das ATF stürmte zwei Jahre vor dem Anschlag die Ranch, konnte aber niemanden festnehmen auf Grund von zu hoher Gegenwehr. Das FBI belagerte daher die Ranch. Am 19. April 1993 wurde dann versucht mit Gas die Leute aus den Gebäuden zu vertreiben. Bei dem Angriff wurde ein Feuer ausgelöst und 79 Menschen wurden getötet und die Belagerung fand ein Ende.
Kurz vor seiner Hinrichtung sagte er, dass er nicht wusste, dass in dem Gebäude ein Kindergarten ist. Hätte er das gewusste, hätte er den Anschlag nicht ausgeführt und sich Zeit genommen ein neues Ziel zu suchen. Das FBI aber hatte Beweise, dass McVeigh das Innere des Gebäudes genau ausgekundschaftet hatte und wusste, dass dort ein Kindergarten war.
Sein Komplize Terry Nichols wurde zu mehrfacher lebenslanger Haft verurteilt.

The Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building:
The Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building was a US federal government complex with eight levels.
The building was built in the 1970's and was opened on March 2nd, 1977.
Among others there were bureaus of the D.E.A. (Drug Enforcement Administration), Secret Service and the ATF (Buereau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms) and also recruiting offices of the Army and the Marine Corps. And there was also a children's day care center on the first level. The building was completely demolished two month after the attack because it wasn't stable enough. Then they build the memorial.
The Attack:
In 1983 an organisation, the CSA (The Covenant, The Sword, and the Arm of the Lord) plotted to park a van with rockets in front of the building and wanted to detonate it by timer. But when the CSA built the rocket launcher a missile exploded in the hand of a member. The CSA took this as a "devine intervention" and called off the planned attack. The founder Richard Snell was sentenced to death. He was executed on April 19th, 1995, same day of the attack. Snell saw the report of the attack before he died.
On April 19th, 1995 a van was parked in front of the building. It was loaded with approximately 7,000 pounds of ammonium nitrate, diesel fuel and other explosive stuff. At 9:02 a.m. the van explode and destroyed a third of the building. The attack killed 168 people including 19 children. Some of them under an age of six. Over 800 were injured.
It didn't took so long to find the terrorist. It was Timothy McVeigh. He was sentenced to death. McVeigh bombed the building to retaliate the Waco siege and the Ruby Ridge siege.
Waco is a city in Texas. A religious group, a sect entrenched there on a ranch. This sect was under observation by the ATF. The sect was very dangerous and the ATF attempted to raid the ranch two years before the attack of the building. But it failured. The FBI initiated a siege of the ranch. On April 19th, 1993 the FBI initiated a tear gas attack to force them out of the ranch. At the attack a fire engulfed and 79 people died and the siege ended.
Before his execution he said that he didn't know that there was a children's day care center in this building and that, had he known he didn't attacked the building, he had taken some time to switch targets. But the FBI had evidences that McVeigh scouted the interior of the building and that he knew that there was a children's day care center.
His co-conspirator, Terry Nichols, is serving multiple life sentences in a federal prison.
