Alcatraz Ticket:

Beim Alcatraz Ticket musst Du leider etwas Geduld mitbringen und schnell sein. Die Tickets sind erst 90 Tage im Voraus sichtbar und buchbar. Du kannst auf der Homepage des offiziellen Vertreibers (Link unten) das Datum suchen und siehst auf Anhieb, ob dein Wunschtag schon buchbar ist. Seit 2016 wurde alles etwas modernisiert und jetzt ist es sogar noch einfacher auf einen Blick alles zu sehen.

2016 war es wie folgt: Man musste sich erst das Wunschdatum aussuchen. Stand ein Preis am Wunschdatum waren noch Tickets vorhanden. Standen aber '---' da, musste man solange warten bis ein Preis am Wunschdatum da stand. Man hat leider auch nicht sofort gesehen, ob an dem Wunschdatum überhaupt noch Tickets verfügbar waren. Erst nach einem Klick auf die gewünschte Tour und Uhrzeit.

 

Jetzt sieht es wie folgt aus:

Als erstes suchst Du Dir deine Wunschtour aus und gehst auf 'Book Now'. Sofort wird ein Kalender aufgemacht und Du kannst Dir dein Wunschdatum raussuchen. Hier siehst Du auch sofort, ob an dem Tag noch Tickets vorhanden sind und ob überhaupt der Verkauf für den Tag offen ist:

  • Ist das Datum weiß hinterlegt, weist eine schwarze Zahl auf und ändert die Farbe wenn Du mit der Maus drüber fährst, ist der Verkauf offen und Du kannst noch Tickets buchen. Weiter unten siehst Du auch die ggf. verschiedenen Uhrzeiten (je nach Tour) und wieviel Tickets zu der jeweiligen Uhrzeit noch verfügbar sind.
  • Ist das Feld aber grau hinterlegt, sind leider schon alle Tickets vergeben. Man kann natürlich vor Ort versuchen noch eins zu ergattern, falls jemand es nicht abgeholt hat. Aber das Risiko würde ich nicht eingehen.
  • Ist das Datum aber weiß hinterlegt, die Zahl grau und das Feld ändert sich nicht wenn Du mit der Maus drüber fährst, dann ist der Verkauf noch nicht offen und Du musst noch etwas warten.

Warum solltest Du schnell sein?

Die Tickets sind sehr sehr begehrt. Als ich meins gebucht hatte, waren innerhalb von 5 Minuten 20-30 Tickets für mein Wunschdatum verkauft.

Du kannst aktuell wählen zwischen der Early Bird Tour, Day Tour, Behind the Scenes Tour, der Night Tour und der Alcatraz & Angel Island Tour. Du kannst bei allen Touren aus verschiedenen Uhrzeiten wählen. Lass Dich bitte nicht verwirren, wenn Du die Early Bird Tour anwählst, aber auf der Seite der Day Tour landest (siehe weiter unten).

Ich hatte die Night Tour genommen und zwar um 17:55 Uhr. Das war noch nicht die letzte Tour. Eine kam dann noch. Die Night Tour kann ich sehr empfehlen, da man dann bei der Rückfahrt einen tollen Blick im Dunkeln auf die beleuchtete Skyline von San Francisco hat. Early Bird Tour & Day Tour:

Die beiden Touren sind inhaltlich identisch. Der Unterschied ist, dass die Early Bird Tour bereits um 8:45 Uhr los geht und es daher sehr wahrscheinlich ist, dass die Tour dann nicht so überfüllt ist, wie am Rest des Tages. Im Preis unterscheiden sich die Touren auch nicht.

Die Day Tour beginnt um 9:10 Uhr. Daher achte beim Buchen darauf, dass Du 8:45 Uhr auswählen kannst.

Bei diesen Touren bekommst Du eine Rundfahrt um die Insel, die Cellhouse-Audiotour (die Audiotour wurde sogar mit einem Award ausgezeichnet) und wechselnde optionale Programme und Ausstellungen. Auch kannst Du aus verschiedenen geführten Touren wählen. Reservieren kannst Du nicht, aber dafür sind die Touren kostenlos und dauern ca. 45 Minuten bis eine Stunde.

 

Night Tour:

Wie der Name es schon verrrät, findet diese Tour am Abend statt. Man fährt noch im Hellen los und kommt im Dunkeln wieder zurück. Die erst Abfahrt ist um 17:55 Uhr. Die zweite und letzte um 18:30 Uhr.

Zusätzlich zu den Punkten der Day Tour kannst Du bei der Njght Tour Filme oder Dozentenlesungen anschauen und anhören. Bei der Night Tour kannst Du nur an einer geführten Tour teilnehmen, die Dich den Weg vom Pier bis zum Eingang des Zellentracktes führt. Dafür gibt es aber verschiedene Aktivitäten und spezielle Programme, die über den Tag nicht angeboten werden. Diese Tour ist von Dienstag bis Samstag verfügbar.

 

Behind the Scenes Tour:

Diese Tour ist die teuerste angebotene Tour und findet an nur zwei Uhrzeiten pro Tag von Dienstag bis Samstag statt. Erste Abfahrt ist 16:20 Uhr und die letzte 16:50 Uhr. Auch hier bekommst Du die Rundfahrt um die Insel. Danach findet eine geführte 2-stündige Tour statt mit max. 30 Teilnehmern. Danach kann man die gleichen Punkte machen, wie bei der Night Tour (Cellhouse-Audiotour, Filmvorführungen, Dozentenlesungen).

Achtung! Kinder unter 12 Jahren sind hier leider nicht erlaubt!

 

Bei allen bisher genannten Touren soll man ca. 3 Stunden einplanen.

 

Alcatraz & Angel Island Tour:

Wie hier der Name es schon verrät, kannst Du mit dieser Tour zwei Inseln besuchen: Alcatraz und Angel Island.

Diese Tour ist nur von März bis Oktober verfügbar. Hier erhälst Du sowohl die Fahrt zu Alcatraz inkl. Rundfahrt um die Insel als auch die Fahrt und Rundfahrt zu bzw. um Angel Island. Es gibt nur zwei Uhrzeiten (9:30 und 9:40 Uhr) aus denen Du wählen kannst. Die erste steuert zuerst Alcatraz an, dann Angel Island. Die zweite genau umgekehrt.

Für diese Combo-Tour gibt es je einen Zeitplan, der eingehalten werden sollte, sonst kommt man nicht nach Angel Island. Bei der Fahrt zurück gibt es auch nur eine Möglichkeit von Angel Island zurück zu kommen, die bereits im Preis enthalten ist. Es fahren auch andere Fähren von dort los, aber die muss man dann extra bezahlen.

Auf Alcatraz hast Du die gleichen Möglichkeiten wie bei der Day Tour. Zusätzlich erhälst Du auf Angel Island eine einstündige Tour mit der Tram. Die zweite Stunde dort kannst Du mit einem Spaziergang verbringen, Dich mit den Rangern unterhalten oder einen Café trinken.

Alle weiteren extra angebotenen Aktivitäten wie z.B. eine Segway Tour oder der Besuch der Immigration Station ist nicht im Preis enthalten und muss extra bezahlt werden.

Für die gesamt Combo-Tour sollte man ca. 5 1/2 Stunden einplanen.

 

 

Alcatraz Ticket:

If you want to visit Alcatraz you need a lot of patience and you need to be fast. These tickets are available for purchase 90 days in advance. On the official website (find the link below) you can search about the date you want to visit and you can immediately see if it is available.

Since 2016 everything is gotta more modern and now it is much easier to see everything at a glance.

2016 you had to do this way: First you needed to find out your date you wanted to visit. When there was a price on your date then you could buy a ticket. But were there these signs '---' then you needed to wait until there was a price. But you also couldn't see immediately if there are still tickets available. Just after the click on the tour and the time.

 

And now:

At first you choose your favorite tour and click on 'Book Now'. Now you can see a calender and you can choose your date. And here you can see on which days tickets still are available and if it is possible to buy tickets:

  • When the day is white with a black number and it's changing the color when you move over with your mouse the sale is open and you can buy tickets. Below you possibly can see different times (in case of which tour you choosed) and how much tickets are still available.
  • But is the date grey every ticket is sold out. Sure, you could try to buy a ticket at the location if someone don't do the tour but in my eyes there is too much risk not getting any ticket.
  • When the date is white but with grey numbers and the color doesn't change when you move over the mouse then the sale isn't open yet and you have to wait a while.

But why should you be fast?

All the tickets are highly coveted. When I booked my one there very sold about 20-30 tickets after 5 minutes on my favorite day.

You can choose between the Early Bird Tour, Day Tour, Behind the Scenes Tour, the Night Tour and the Alcatraz & Angel Island Tour. At all tours you can choose between several times. Please don't be confused if you choose the Early Bird Tour and the site will show you the Day Tour (see below why). I took the Night Tour at 5:55 PM. But this wasn't the last tour. On followed. I can recommend the Night Tour because on the way back in the dark you have an amazing view of the lighted skyline of San Francisco. Early Bird Tour & Day Tour:

Bouth tours have the same things included. The difference is the starting time. The Early Bird Tour only starts at 8:45 AM and so the chance that there aren't so much people is higher than at the Day Tour. The price is the same.

The Day Tour starts at 9:10 AM. So it is important that you have a look at the time if you want to choose the Early Bird Tour at 8:45 AM.

At both tours you have a round-trip ferry ride to Alcatraz Island, Cellhouse audio tour (award-winning) and changing optional programs and exhibits. Also you can choose between several guided tours. But you can't do any reservations for these guided tours. But they are free and you'll need 45 minutes to one hour per tour.

 

Night Tour:

As the name says this tour is at the evening. You start in daylight in San Francisco and will be back in the dark. The first departure is at 5:55 PM. The second and last at 6:30 PM.

Additionally to the things you can do at the Day Tour you can see some documentations and docent readings. At the Night Tour you only can do a guided tour from the pier to the entrance of the cellhouse. But you also can do some several activities and programs which aren't available at the Day Tour. This tour is available from Tuesday to Saturday.

 

Behind the Scenes Tour:

This tour is the most expensive one you can choose and you can choose only between two times a day from Tuesday to Saturday. The first departure is at 4:20 PM and the last one at 4:50 PM. Also here you'll get a round-trip ferry ride to Alcatraz Island. After that you'll get a two hour guided tour with a maximum of 30 people. Then you can do the same things like at the Night Tour (Cellhouse audio tour, documentations, docent readings).

Attention! Children under the age of 12 aren't allowed on this tour.

 

You'll need approx. 3 hours at each mentioned tour.

 

Alcatraz & Angel Island Tour:

As the name says you can visit two islands with this tour: Alctraz and Angel Island.

This tour is available only March to October. With this tour you'll get the way to the islands and a round-trip ferry ride of both islands. You can choose between two times: 9:30 AM and 9:40 AM. The first one goes first to Alcatraz then to Angel Island. The second first to Angel Island then to Alcatraz. You have a schedule for every Combo-Tour. And you have to follow this schedule. If not you will not get to Angel Island on the first time of this tour. On the way back from Angel Island there is just one time which is included. You can come back with another ferry but then you have to pay the ferry extra.

On Alcatraz you have the same possibilities like at the Day Tour. Additional you'll get on Angel Island a one-hour narrated tram tour. The second hour on Angel Island you can do what you want maybe a walking tour, talk to the ranger or have a coffee.

All additional activities you can do there you need to pay extra like the segway tour or a visit at the Immigration Station because these activities aren't included.

To do this tour you'll need approx. 5 1/2 hours.
